About
The XM16E1 is an early variant of the M16 rifle, which was used by the United States military during the Vietnam War. The M603 is a version of the XM16E1 that was designed for export to other countries. It has a 20-inch barrel and fires the 5.56x45mm NATO round. The XM16E1/M603 has a fixed stock and a triangular handguard with a heat shield. It features a safe/semi-automatic selector switch, allowing the shooter to choose between firing modes. The XM16E1/M603 also features a forward assist, which can be used to manually close the bolt in case of a malfunction. The XM16E1/M603 was used by several countries' military forces and law enforcement agencies in the 1970s and 1980s.
